Cleaning/rejuvenating/whitening white suede?

I just found a pair of suede boat shoes at the back of our wardrobe, really nice, blue, red but with the tops in white suede.

They are more grey than white now!

Okay, I'll probably only wear them on holidays. Wellingtons, slippers and Doc Martins don't look cool on a beach. 8-)

Anyone know how to get them back to white without dissolving the whole shoe?

Yes, I do have a suede brush and eraser. No difference.

I have thought of diluted bleach which works really well sometimes, but has been known to dissolve the object being bleached. ;)

If you're not happy with fifty shades of grey suede, it says here that one can dye them.

White vinegar seems to be the goto solution suggested on many websites.

Thanks everyone. I will start with white vinegar and see how it goes.

PS Quite amazing how many uses there are for stuff like cheap vinegar and sodium bicarbonate!

Using bicarb with super glue was an absolute eye opener

(I think vinegar helped get them shut again)

I had to look that up on the internet. I knew that breathing on the object make the glue set faster (moisture) but never heard of the bicarb trick.

A few times, I've used bicarb and vinegar as a cheap 'Mr Muscle' for unblocking sinks. I heat the vinegar in the microwave, sprinkle plenty of bicarb down the plug, then pour in the hot vinegar. Some nice fizzing and... voila!

Some bicarb sprinkled on molten homemade toffee is a great way to turn it into a crunchie bar!
