Just how insecure is Musk if he needs to retweet an interview from 1 May 2019? And would you take investment advice from someone enthusing about Tesla at $239? If you think the enthusiasm is still valid, then buying at $239 must be still valid, no?

Given what has happened to Trump with the weaponised justice system no one in the US feels secure any longer. The vote on the 13th looks also to have a political component and as the board have put out their believe that shareholders should vote for it, they have a fiduciary requirement to present share holders with as much support of their decision as possible and that includes anything, they or Musk feel is appropriate.

I have no idea what is going on in the US, but the rulentless misinformation against Tesla is indicative of well organised and well funded hostilities which is enough to make anyone feel insecure.

Musk at Tesla is going to be a fascinating example for business schools to study. There seems little doubt that Tesla in the early 2010s was driven by the kind of collective vision engendered by great leaders, but some time around 2016/17 that collective vision turned into the vision of one man - who had lost the dressingroom (qv eg Grobmann leaving in April 2017), and that seldom ends well. He now seems to be ruling Tesla by whim and fear rather than by vision - certainly his time at Twitter has been a reign of terror from the start, I don't follow SpaceX closely but maybe the collective vision is still in place there?

I have no idea why anyone cares what is presented at Business Schools, the folk there are not wealthy and are opining on things they have never done. There are huge differences in how US and UK business are run with the US far more aggressive and no one cares about staff if the bottom line is good and there is amazement that Musk runs X with a fraction of the staff of previous management. Having studied Tesla and competitor engineering it is clear that Tesla have a huge lead and a well developed pipe line and are continuing to sell large numbers of cars despite the intense head wind of high interest rates. The Cyber truck is not meant to be a F150 competitor as indeed is the case with Range Rover. It is a luxury vehicle and is selling well to its targeted market.

Tesla is run by the board, not Musk. All of these "Musk is doing this..." stories are fabrications designed to undermine Tesla.

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/30/tech ... index.html

Who is mocking BYD and hybrids now? They look like the future at the moment. Beating a legacy BEV manufacturer whose engineering limitations mean it is unable to bring new cars to the market to replace ageing models. ;)

Articles like this from CNN can't be good for Tesla's reputation.

Meanwhile Toyota announces plans to accelerate their ever successful hybrid range.

Why is it that Tesla's profitable competitors are able to launch so many models so quickly with superior engineering and features which consumers like?

Howard

Yet another eye and ear candy report, no details, just wild qualitative comments signalling nothing but the ego of the writer is overloaded.

BYD are not running rings around Tesla. They have about 1/3 the operating margins.

BYD models are inferior to Tesla and now attract such high tariff that they will not sell in the US, i.e. they can't sell in the second largest car market.

Toyota have been announcing new stuff for ever, but hardly anythings appears.

Meanwhile Toyota's debt remains hight limiting what they can do

Ody

You always avoid replying to the concrete issues on which there are indisputable facts.

Tesla have been unable to launch new models of cars to match competition.

Competitors are taking market share from Tesla in China, the largest EV market in the world, and forcing it to reduce production and cut prices.

Tesla's sales volumes are falling and H1 2024 will show a severe drop in volume and margins.

Hybrid sales by competitors are buoyant and they have been a serious competitor to BEVs.

Are you finding it difficult to counter these facts by quoting authoritative sources?

There are no concrete facts to answer.

There are many manufacturers making more electric cars, so the entiremarket is growing & Tesla’s share of this market is less. What does this tell us?

Tesla focus on making a small range of very capable models & as of yet the Y is the best selling car in the world. Many of the Chines makers are selling at a loss & the most successful, byd is selling at 1/3 the gross margin of Tesla & has been locked out of the second biggest market in the world by president Biden’s new tariffs. Perhaps you might worry where byds future growth now comes from.

You might also reflect upon the manufacturing efficiencies of having a few good models to having a range of mediocrity.

As you might also have noticed the world’s economy is currently contracting due to high interest rates.

Hybrids are rubbish, destined to disappear, why focus on them when the future is battery electric.

As so often you are believing the eye & ear candy & not thinking.

Manufacturing is not about selling a lot of cars at a loss or low margin, but about selling a lot of good cars with good performance & high levels of safety at good margins.

Taking your suggestion about "not thinking". It's really important to distinguish between a post in 2019 and a current interview. ;)

Are there too many "yah boo" unthinking replies on this thread at the moment?

Reality is catching up with the auto market and it is interesting to watch how the naysayers are trying to deny it.

Yes, reality is catching up with the auto market, but which reality?

Is the auto market simply carrying on like it always has, or is it about to change radically with robo driving dramatically reducing the number of cars that are purchased each year?

The trend of predominantly ice engines is clearly being replaced with a new trend of increasing BEV & increasing hybrid sales. Do we now see one of these new trends dominate, or will hybrid sales begin to collapse as punters realize they are a dead end?

Which companies will emerge & prosper on a global scale?

There is a relentless media campaign to tell us as little as possible about what is happening as they have no clue & so they are running ridiculous stories like headless chickens in all directions that tell us nothing.

If the margins stay the same, Tesla made about 20% less selling 25% of the cars which is a good result.

China gives first approvals for public trials of advanced autonomous driving.

BEIJING, June 4 (Reuters) -" China has granted approval to a first group of nine automakers to carry out tests on vehicles with advanced autonomous driving technologies on public roads, as part of a plan to accelerate adoption of self-driving cars.
The tests of so-called level three autonomous driving technologies will be carried out by automakers including BYD and Nio.

Tesla is also preparing to deliver its "Full Self-Driving" (FSD) software to Chinese users within the year, Reuters has reported. FSD is also a level-two system but Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said more fully autonomous vehicles are close."

This is not five days one after the other but a series of 1 day stops culminating in a two day stop: June 7, 14, 17, 27 and 28.

It does not seem to be a cut in production to reduce inventory, but a series of planned maintenance & upgrade days.

Apple gets some free publicity, folk get a warning over the potential misuse of AI & there are possibly some changes to how AI is implemented by Apple & all the other vendors, such as Microsoft who are using it to record every key stroke you make not necessarily with your knowledge or permission and then everything goes on.
