£8.95 including postage for a piece this size, but what is it? It is quite thin.

No worries RC - I have literally turned my new screen on - and I think it's far to sensitive - which is what I am paying for. Either that or I haven't set it up correctly

Take care

It is not graphite or lead. It is not any form of gasket, heat transfer, insulating or similar material. It is not used between two components like a gasket.

It would be very expensive toilet paper. One side is quite smooth and would skid (so you would only be able to use one side). The other side is textured and would probably work about as well as Izal used to, i.e., it would be better at spreading the poo about than wiping it away.

The different textures have nothing to do with its functionality but are (presumably) due to its method of manufacture. This film is not as simple as it looks.

I'm thinking Kryptonite toilet paper then  Because Superman's going to need all the help he can get.

Is it a filter of some sort?

This is where item 6 form Mystery Items No. 5 would be useful.

It is not a filter; neither a mechanical filter (like a coffee filter), nor a light filter. It is manufactured to have a specific property.

Does it come in any other colours?
Does it have electrical properties like resistance or capacitance?

1. Loin cloth for a Martian?
2. A map of my brain?
3. Something that is worth more than a billion roubles?
4. A small green lint or cotton cloth for cleaning jewelry?
5. Crackback labelling?

I have only seen it in green. I see no reason that it should not be made in a different colour but that would not affect its functionality. (ok, black probably wouldn't work too well.)

kempiejon wrote:Does it have electrical properties like resistance or capacitance?

Its property is not electrical.

AsleepInYorkshire wrote:Loin cloth for a Martian?

It is for use by Earthlings.

AsleepInYorkshire wrote:A map of my brain?

It is not a map of your brain but I see where you are coming from. It is only 3" x 4", however, not 3 miles x 4 miles.

AsleepInYorkshire wrote:Something that is worth more than a billion roubles?

If it is not now, it soon will be.

AsleepInYorkshire wrote:A small green lint or cotton cloth for cleaning jewelry?

It is a thin plastic film rather than a cloth.

AsleepInYorkshire wrote:Crackback labelling?

That is a very interesting answer. Totally wrong but very interesting.

Is it photosensitive (including UV sensitive)? Or thermochromic?

Those are good guesses but it is not photosensitive or thermochromic.

Spoilers with colour are never going to be reliable: someone may override your choice of colours. Maybe for instance someone colour-blind might do that universally rather than have to deal individually with every hard-to-read site. It's a compromise we make: spoilers are good but not critically important.

On a regular browser and screen they're typically marginally visible but hard to read. For a long, complex answer that's great: it's far too hard work to read through without deliberately breaking the spoiler. For an answer that's just a couple of words, the threshold to reading them is low unless they're fully invisible - which will vary from your 'puter to mine.

I didn't read it involuntarily, but I probably could've done if my state of mind had drawn me that way.

Is it something that might help keep you alive in an emergency?

[edit] Erm, no, you wouldn't buy what I had in mind in "a piece this size".

Not PCB etching. Your previous guesses were closer.

It is not something you would use in an emergency (not one that I can think of).
