When I had a not dissimilar experience it turned out that the parcel (containing alcohol) could not be delivered, having either been stolen or dropped.

Would it be feasible to request to pick it up from the depot?

Not quite as extreme as yours but I'm currently waiting for a delivery by them...

11:05 - Sun May 26 We're expecting your parcel to arrive with us soon and we'll update your tracking once we've received it
18:42 - Sun May 26 We're processing your parcel at our hub
20:43 - Sun May 26 We've got your parcel and We're processing it for you
04:42 - Tue May 28 Your parcel is at the delivery depot and we'll let you know when it's out for delivery
11:01 - Tue May 28 Your parcel is on its way to you today
15:06 - Tue May 28 Your local courier will deliver your parcel between 18:30 and 20:30 today
17:00 - Tue May 28 We're sorry we've had to reschedule your delivery. Your local courier will now deliver between 17:30 and 19:30 today *
21:29 - Tue May 28 We're sorry we haven't been able to deliver today. We'll update your tracking when it's on the way on the next working day
10:07 - Wed May 29 Your parcel is on its way to you today

* The email telling me this arrived at 19:45, and on checking the headers that was just a minute after it was sent. :roll:

Translation - we left it outside someone else's house. Or possibly our courier claims to have left it there so he doesn't get a bo11111ng for losing it. It probably fell out of the van a few days ago.

ISTR a scam where someone would get a laptop box and put a couple of books in it and send it to someone insured delivery. After a few goes back and forth the parcel would go missing and they'd claim compensation for the insured value. I guess it works if they lose enough before the combined postage exceeds the claim.

Well my delivery arrived but their idea of "delivery" was simply to dump it by the front door and not even bother to ring the doorbell.

I did get an email saying it had been delivered though and fortunately happened to be at my PC at the time, so popped out straight away to bring it in before someone nicked it.... :roll:

It depends very much on the local bod. Their service to us was good, then she retired and it was terrible, her replacement couldn't be arzed to schlep out into the sticks.
Now we have a different local bod and it's OK, not great but OK.

That said, they do sometimes fail to deliver... we're a ways from town and if it's late in the day they can't be bothered for 99p or whatever it is they get.
