If one had to pay £10 for an appt, refundable when one turns up, it would release a lot of failed appts.
Cue bleating from those that 'can't afford it'.

Also, a long list developing of 'valid' excuses for not turning up or calling to cancel, starting with:

My phone battery was flat
I tried to call and cancel but there was no signal
I tried to call and cancel but I got stuck in the queue
I got the day wrong
I got the time wrong
I was in the pub

This is something dentists are already doing (admittedly discharging patients how don’t turn up so slightly different) but I think this is a very good way of stopping people taking the piss.

Not really, it's self evident from your posts that you have a sense of entitlement that seems to be over and above the normal rational individual.

If I need a Dr's appointment but I don't need it urgently, I let time take it's course. You seem to want everything here and now even if that may be the detriment of others.

Personally, I find your behaviour as you have posted here disgusting.

I'm inclined to agree. The OP's choice of thread title telegraphs a complete lack of respect for GPs and failure to grasp the pressure they work under.

To be fair to the OP, his complaint was initially about the receptionist.
Our practice, the receptionist used to be spiky and antagonistic, both on the phone and in person.
Fortunately, she is gone and the new receptionist(s) are pleasant to deal with.
It makes quite a difference.

I'm fortunate to know a Doctors' receptionist (she used to work with my wife in a hospital - both nurses)

It wouldn't surprise me to hear conversations she has had with colleagues along the lines of

"Our practice(sic), that patient was spiky and antagonistic, both on the phone and in person.
Fortunately, she is gone and the new patient(s) are pleasant to deal with.
It makes quite a difference."

All the same, I fear the OP was referring to the doctors, not the receptionist, with his choice of the word "butchers".
