Not surprised at all. I was thinking earlier today that Johnson is fatally wounded as a PM. But who will replace him? Sunak would be my choice but he's had some bad press recently. I wouldn't be surprised if that had been planted by the Johnson clique at a convenient time. Politics is a grubby business for the most part.

I hope you're right Bulldog. But I don't put it passed BJ to attempt a re-shuffle. Meanwhile we have huge economic challenges without a Chancellor and an NHS falling down the hole of it's own waiting lists without a Health Secretary. We we really need a quick resolution but I don't see BJ resigning.

What will be, will be.

I'm more concerned as to whether it will provide an investment opportunity?!

I think Rishi Sunak was aiming for the post of PM, but the revelations that his wife was happy to live in the UK but avoid our taxes made it clear to the electorate that Rishi wasn't quite as British as he needed to be for the role of PM. I think lately his narrative around taxation has been at best deceitful. He could certainly polish a turd.

Javid ... useless

I think both have stabbed Boris in the back and their timing and nature of leaving seems to evidence that.

All that aside I suspect there will be a few vultures circling Boris tonight.

Personally I will be so pleased if Boris is frogmarched out of No.10. We can't have such a liar as a PM....simple as that. Honesty, integrity, credibility?

So you vote for democracy by the media? Regarding honesty and integrity LOL! if you believe that BJ is the lowest case candidate.

Indeed. This is an investment and personal finance website after all :D

It's quite telling that the pound has barely moved since the resignations were announced. After today's events we'd normally expect to see the pound fall by a couple of percent at least.

I reckon that the chances of Britain joining the EU single market and even the EU have increased a bit, mostly because our politics is in great flux and the Lib Dems are now much more likely to be kingmakers after the next general election.

Also Keir Starmer may not be Labour Leader for long if the rumours about fines and injunctions regarding Beergate are true. His replacement would probably be a staunch rejoiner.

Not something I'd want to happen, though I have several large bets on rejoining the EU by 2026 at much higher odds than currently offered.

It may be that the opportunities in the near future are in the betting markets. My money is still on Penny Mordaunt at 100-1. She is currently 4-1 favourite with most bookies. Ben Wallace will get a lot of support as he has been topping the Conservative Home Cabinet league table, well ahead of everyone else, for several months thanks to his support for Ukraine.

edit - talk about lively markets. Rishi Sunak now 3-1 favourite with some bookies

Tomorrow BJ to announce that prisoners are to be put to work in the fields picking British fruit/veg that would otherwise perish and that Sunak is to be imprisoned/amongst them for his massive loss of taxpayers money incompetence :)

Don't you think that BJ may have stabbed himself? Lack of any moral compass, an absence of any coherent strategy, impossible commitments, making policy on the hoof....

'Operation Big Dog' indeed - the only thing I know about big dogs is that they leave big turds in their wake - to use your language.
