Thsi was from an email from Citywire explaining why it does not include passive, i.e rules based funds, in its monthly performance tables.

The reason the fund has been removed from our tables is because Lipper have labelled the fund an index tracking fund. We do not track index tracking funds as we don’t feel these funds are actively managed, as such the fund was removed from our analysis.

So the public cannot see how the lowest cost decile of funds perform.

I think it is outrageous but clearly I am in a minority.

I'd assume their income comes from the investment industry, not from their customers. Always worth bearing in mind when using such sites.

Not all passives or rules based funds are in the lowest cost decile. Indeed, some are far from it...

The industry gets all its moneyt from investors. There is no magic money tree in "finance".

The expression - 'Who pays the piper calls the tune' comes to mind.

Whether the advertising is direct or indirect e.g. an article with a subtle or not so subtle dropping of a name, the editors of business magazines and newspapers must do their advertisers' bidding.
