Ticketmaster hacked

#667010

Postby MrFoolish » June 1st, 2024, 9:52 pm

There are reports that the user details held by Ticketmaster have been grabbed by hackers. Thought you guys might like the heads up. The stories can be easily googled.

I'm changing some passwords that are similar. Considering getting my debit card changed too. Not advice.

Mainstream media is being remarkably coy about what data has been copied. They focus on the personal details of "Hundreds of millions of customers" being leaked. This suggests to me that Ticketmaster must be a multi-national as there are fewer than 70 million humans here in the UK to have their details leaked.

(If you believe the official stats.)

They are American, so definitely multi-national. I dare say our government will ignore it.

It makes me wonder how often organisations get hacked but we don't get to find out about it. I expect it is often covered up. All this stuff is a PITA.

R4 News just said 560 million customers. That's way more than the UK and the USA together!

The data fields nicked can't be that compromising though as they are only warning 'customers' to watch out for "scam emails or texts".

Yeah well, the data on the post office computers couldn't be changed by anyone other than the postmasters. Or so they said.

I wouldn't trust Santander with a bargepole. I keep emails from them about somebody else's overdraft. Twice I've emailed them about it, but they never reply or do anything about it. If it isn't from them (I'm pretty sure it is) they could at least let me know.

Again, a number that stretches credibility.

3/7 of the population of the UK have Santander accounts or work for them (including all minors)? Really?

"Following an investigation, we have now confirmed that certain information relating to customers of Santander Chile, Spain and Uruguay, as well as all current and some former Santander employees of the group had been accessed,"
