Over the weekend Novak Djokovic won his match at the French open. The match started at 10.30pm and finished after 3am. What on earth prompted the tennis authorities to start an important match so late? It seems to show the local tennis fans little consideration, particularly children.

TV contracts. Most of the big tournaments now have a night time session (they need good floodlights and having paid for them want to get their money's worth). If the earlier matches finish later than anticipated this has a knock on effect which leads to a late start for the last match of the day.
Earlier this year Andy Murray's match against Thanasi Kokkinakis finished at 4.05am local time.

The French Open used to stop play when the sun finally set for the night, even if the light was still good enough to play for a few more minutes. Not any more.
Djokovic is 2 sets to 1 down on Eurosport as I type this.

Yes, I was following this match on the radio. ND won in five sets.
I like to think that Wimbledon would never agree to such barmy scheduling.

They can't, Wimbledon has a curfew at 11pm. Anyone found in the grounds after that time is shot.
