Economy Drive

Postby scotia » June 24th, 2024, 1:25 am

Over the past week the main road between two nearby towns has been closed to traffic, due to road repairs. So all of the traffic was sign-posted to take a detour through our village. We have no traffic control lights on the route, so getting out of our side roads by car has proven difficult, and pedestrians trying to cross the road to shops should first check out their sprinting capabilities. So the usual protests were made to the usual offices, and to our surprise, some relief was provided. A young policewoman appeared with a speed camera, which slowed the traffic down. However a closer examination showed that she was stationary, and possibly made from cardboard.

A very common sight in Japan where they can stand monitoring the traffic for years at a time!

I read about this years ago. There used to be one at the bottom of the escalator in our shopping complex. There's one in a supermarket petrol station near me. I tried to find a study that hypothesises how they do work but as usual the internet is too full of choice.

I've stopped using AI as I read that AI servers generate more than 3% of greenhouse gases NO2, CO2 and Fluorinated gases, similar to long haul airplane travel, that I have also stopped. Anyhow I've been making stuff up for myself far too long to change my ways now.

Why didnt you arrange with your neighbour to park on opposite sides of the road just a few yards apart thus creating a restrictor. That would slow the traffic down. :D

I suppose it might be that I would be diverted and might shove one of the cars out of the way

The word "scarecrow" springs to mind.
