I was rowing up and down the loch late on Monday evening. All the other fishers had given up, leaving myself and an Osprey trying in vain to find any suicidal brown trout. Eventually the Osprey dived at the far end of the loch, and caught a large trout, but had some difficulty taking off with its load. Eventually it struggled into the air and proceeded homewards down the loch with its prize, but it was having considerable problems in gaining altitude, and finally the trout struggled free, and dropped back into the loch. The Osprey returned back up the loch and continued its search. It had one further dive - but failed to catch a fish. So with the light failing, it headed homewards down the loch. When it passed over the spot where it had lost the fish, it circled, and landed (without diving) on the water. And then it took off with a large trout, slowly climbed with its catch, and headed for home. I assume that the caught-and-lost fish had been fatally wounded by the first encounter - and had floated to the surface.
