Social tariffs are cheaper broadband and phone packages for people claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits. Some providers call them ‘essential’ or ‘basic’ broadband.

Ah yes, the poverty trap. Earn an extra £1, lose (potentially) thousands in cascading benefits when you cease to qualify.

Carer's Allowance has been in the news as a case in point.
